Behind the community

Infrastructure & development

When members want to play something new, we want the setup to be straightforward. Our hosting and development work gives the team tools to organize groups, share information, and run servers where a game supports them.

Academy Hosting

A place for our next shared world

Academy Hosting is the hosting side of Academy Gaming LLC. Having that technical experience within the team helps us plan server setup and ongoing upkeep when members want to establish a group in another game. Not every game needs or supports a hosted server, so the setup depends on the game and what the group needs.

  • Shared game worlds

For games that support dedicated hosting, server resources give members a shared world to return to without depending on one player keeping their own PC online.

  • Setup for each game

Console and file access let our team configure supported games, manage mods, and schedule restarts around the needs of the group.

  • Ongoing upkeep

Backups, monitoring, and DDoS protection help the team look after shared servers and respond when something needs attention.

Website & Discord tools

Less setup for each new game

A new game shouldn't mean starting every community tool from scratch. We can reuse the systems already behind our website and Discord to introduce the game, help members find each other, and share the first sessions. That leaves more time for the people organizing the group to actually play with it.

Room for new games

New game pages can use the site's existing directory, event listings, and ways to join. We can give a new group a place on the website without building a separate site for it. Cloudflare Workers runs the site and its API endpoints.

Information in one place

Our editors manage articles and images in the community site's own CMS, with D1 storing content and R2 holding media. That gives the team one place to publish introductions, guides, and updates as a game's community develops.

Sessions people can find

EventSync brings scheduled Discord events onto the website and relevant game pages. Members can find a session for their game, and the team doesn't need to maintain a second event calendar by hand.

Tools for the community team

Cloudflare Access and application checks restrict who can use the admin area. Contact forms validate submissions, filter spam, and email the team through Amazon SES, giving members a way to raise questions and ideas.

What this means for members

The useful part isn't the technology itself. It's being able to find the next session, understand how to join, and catch up on what your group is doing.

Find a group to play with

A scheduled session gives people a time and place to meet. Showing it on the website helps members discover groups, including games they haven't played with us before.

Help new players get started

Community updates and guides give the team a place to explain what's happening, share useful information, and help newcomers take part without repeating everything in chat.
